A bunch of Cuban famous musicians coming from groups of well-known national and international prestigy, such as Buenavista Social Club, Afro Cuban All Star, Mangüaré, Estrellas Cubanas and the National Symphonic Orchestra, were convoked at the end of 2003 by composer, musicologist and flutist José Loyola and artistic director Jesús Hernández to form the CHARANGA DE ORO.
Charanga de Oro is aimed at rescuing, for the current musical panorama, the typical sonority and format of the Cuban charanga. This sort of group was, in a way, responsible for the international and successful promotion during the 40s, 50s and 60s from the last XX century of the most famous Cuban rhythms of all times, among them, danzón, guaracha, cha cha chá, son, bolero and mambo.
