Graduated in 1960 from Fine Arts School in Pinar del Río in the specialty of painting and drawing.
The Mario García Portela`s work is particularly attractive, because it focuses its request towards those places apparently daily and insignificant of the urban and rural panorama of the island, picking them to the category of the symbolically transgressive. Pictures are worked in ochre tones adding a color detail, attempting to imitate that cinematographic effect in which black and white mix with color to offer a sensation of superposition between the specific times of what is narrated.
